Takwa Ruins
We will cruise to the northern end of Manda Island. Takwa ruins is situated on a low hill and has remains of a large unique mosque, built in 16th and 17th centuries. The settlement consists also of 100 limestone and coral houses, tombs, well and the site is surrounded of a wall and has several Baobab trees. Takwa was an old Swahili town with estimated population of 2 500 people. The reason it was abandoned is unknown so far, and the people moved to Shella. We will also take you to a nice spot for swimming or snorkling an we will provide fruits and snacks. The journey can be longer if you like to stay overnight and camp in our tents at a deserted beach.
